Discovery of the fungus Penicillium oxalicum var. Armenian

In 1972, Dr. Eduard Sardaryan succeeded in isolating a strain of microscopic filamentous fungus from the soil of the Ararat Valley in Armenia, which showed very remarkable properties at the time. The fungus differed from microscopic fungi known at the time mainly due to its original dynamics of biosynthesis and the ability to produce exogenous red pigment. Together with colleagues, they taxonomically classified the microorganism as Penicillium oxalicum strain var. armeniaca to the list of potential drugs. During lengthy research, Dr. Sardaryan investigated this fungus and found that the secondary metabolites it produces are neither pathogenic nor toxic and that it is a very human-friendly substance. What's more, it can be very healthy. Once the research was completed, a use was sought for the substance.

Active ingredient authorization and patent 1996 – 2006

To use the substance from the microorganism Penicillium oxalicum var. Armeniaca in the pharmaceutical industry was awarded by Dr. In 1996, based on the expert opinions of the State Health Institute (SZÚ), Sardaryan granted permission to the Hygienic Station of the capital city of Prague and subsequently had biomass patented for 120 countries around the world. In 2006, it obtained registration on the list of medicines at the Ministry of Health.
